Auto Body Welder

Responsible for repairing, replacing, and fabricating vehicle body parts, ensuring structural integrity. This includes performing advanced welding techniques on vehicle components and custom steel fabrication for various applications. Knowledge of steel fabrication enhances the ability to repair and reinforce vehicle frames and other metal structures.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform Welding Repairs:

- Use MIG, TIG, and other welding techniques to repair damaged vehicle bodies and frames.

- Weld and join metal components, ensuring that the structural integrity of the vehicle is restored.

- Repair or replace damaged parts such as panels, doors, roofs, and fenders.

Steel Fabrication:

- Fabricate custom metal parts for vehicle bodies, including cutting, shaping, and assembling steel components.

- Design and create steel frames or brackets for vehicle reinforcements or custom modifications.

- Use tools such as shears, presses, and benders to manipulate steel into desired shapes and sizes.

Inspect and Assess Damage:

- Evaluate the extent of damage to the vehicle's body and structural components.

- Develop repair and fabrication plans in collaboration with other auto body technicians.

- Provide cost and time estimates for both welding and steel fabrication repairs.

Cut, Shape, and Prepare Metal Parts:

- Cut, fit, and shape metal parts to match vehicle specifications.

- Use various tools such as grinders, cutters, and hammers to prepare surfaces for welding and fabrication.

- Fabricate and install new metal sections and custom steel parts, as needed.

Ensure Compliance with Safety Standards:

- Follow all health and safety guidelines, including proper ventilation and protective equipment use during welding and fabrication.

- Ensure all welds and fabricated parts meet vehicle manufacturer's and industry standards for safety and quality.

Maintain Welding and Fabrication Equipment:

- Regularly inspect and maintain welding and steel fabrication tools and machinery to ensure safe and effective operation.

- Troubleshoot any issues with welding machines, cutting tools, or steel fabrication equipment.

Collaboration and Communication:

- Work closely with other auto body repair professionals, including painters, mechanics, and estimators.

- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to ensure timely and accurate welding and fabrication work.
