DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Observes standards of courtesy at all times
2. Provides a high standard of nursing care to the patients assigned in his/her area
3. Carries out nursing assignments efficiently and assumes accountability for quality of patient care given
4. Assesses the patient's needs for nursing care based on the patient's history, results of physical, diagnostic, and laboratory examinations
5. Plans/prioritizes nursing care activities considering the overall health needs of the patient, the extent of his coping abilities including that of his family and significant others and his readiness, acceptance and abilities for self care
6. Implements nursing care plan
7. Provides health teaching to patient, his family and significant others so that they may understand illness and can participate actively in patient's care
8. Evaluates/modifies care given in terms of effectiveness and efficiency of nursing measures rendered ad feedback from patient/family/significant others
9. Establishes referral system for the continuity of care
10. Implements strategies related to the safe preparation and administration of medications based on institutional policies and procedures.
11. Encourages the clients to accept primary responsibility for their health and participates in their health care
12. Protects clients rights based on"Patient's Bill of Rights and Obligations".
13. Applies knowledge in pathophysiology, behavioral and related sciences in assessing clients in needs planning/implementation and evaluation of care
14. Receives admissions and immediately visits new admission, observes patients' conditions and reactions of patient to hospitalization, and checks for identification band
15. Carries out doctor's orders and transcribes orders to the kardex, medication and treatment cards, diet list, standing order sheet, medication sheet, etc.
16. Accompanies physicians during rounds and assist with the examinations, treatments and diagnostic tests, dressings, etc. Reviews patient care plan with the physician. Notifies the physician of changes in the patient's conditions and any unusual or abnormal abbreviations.
17. Applies the principles of asepsis in patient care to minimize the risk of the transfer of infection or accidental contamination
18. Conducts/participates in research activities designed for the purpose of improving quality of nursing care
19. Disseminates and utilizes results of such studies to improve care
