Purpose: The Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for ensuring external regulatory financial reporting and information is collated and provided accurately through the preparation of accounts, returns and financial analysis.
As a member of the Finance Team and clearly responsible for their functional areas of expertise the incumbent is also expected to think and act in the wider context and interests of the client. For example, contribution to the development and delivery of overall strategy, marketplace and Member outcomes, innovation and cultural development.
Responsibilities: Reporting To: Finance Manager Accounting or to any other representative of the Employer designated from time to time by the Employer. Key Relationships: Client management and staff, Subsidiary company management and accounting teams, Tax advisors and auditors, Securitisation Trustees & Credit Rating Agencies, Legal advisors Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ). Reporting/ Legislation: Responsible for the collation and preparation of all external regulatory financial reporting including preparation of consolidated Group Disclosure Statements and Annual Financial Reports and other reporting to the Group Audit and Risk Committee. Responsible for the collation and preparation of all RBNZ regulatory reporting, including but not limited to monthly Income Statement survey, Balance Sheet survey, Capital Adequacy return, and associated quarterly Satellite and Bank Financial Strength Dashboard reporting. Responsible for maintenance and ongoing development and enhancement of Group internal & external financial reporting templates (excel based). Responsible for ensuring that the mortgage securitisation trusts comply with all statutory and regulatory reporting requirements including the review of monthly management reports, credit rating & RBNZ surveillance reports, quarterly investor reporting, annual reports and income tax returns. Provides treasury accounting knowledge and expertise to the Finance team and reviews all monthly information supplied by the Treasury team to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards. Reviews and interprets current and proposed financial reporting regulations in relation to specialist treasury accounting and documents the impacts. Maintains a working knowledge of group financial reporting legislation. Contributes to all other SBS reporting obligations in respect to external parties, other regulators and agencies, rating agencies, securitisation trustees, banks (bank covenant reports), Companies Office, Securities Commission, Statistics NZ, Treasury, and Ministry of Economic Development. Liaises with subsidiary company management and accounting teams to ensure coordination of external group regulatory reporting. Liaises with auditors during external audits to ensure information is provided and answered in a timely manner. Securitisation: Maintains a detailed understanding of all SBS securitisation vehicles and securitisation processes including the review of all internal and external regulatory reporting requirements and compliance with Trust Deeds. Liaises with securitisation trustees and other external parties as required. Reviews and monitors securitisation data to ensure integrity and accuracy. Responsible for the maintenance, development and enhancement of securitisation processes and reporting including within the SBS Banking System Taxation: Maintains requisite knowledge of taxation issues such as income tax, FBT, GST and entertainment tax. Projects: Contributes to and participates in information system, accounting and reporting development projects, including policies, strategies, plans and recommendations. Researches, analyses and evaluates specific projects assigned by the FMA and develops appropriate solutions. Implements approved solution strategies by planning, directing and co-ordinating and actioning solutions. Health and Safety: Fulfils their obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 by complying with the company's health and safety policies and procedures. Takes reasonable care to look after their own health and safety, fitness for work, and the health and safety of others, including members. Ensures that no action or inaction on their part results in injury or illness to either themselves or to others. Identifies and notifies all hazards. Reports all accidents, incidents, near misses and hazards to their Manager, or another person in charge immediately. Attends and actively participates in health and safety discussions and training. Effectively uses personal protective equipment and clothing supplied for all work that requires it. Operational Activities: Continuous review and improvement of processes, templates and procedures to make things better and increase efficiencies. Contributes to the flow of communication within the team, by actively participating in team meetings. Responsible for ensuring familiarity with and adherence to internal SBS policy and procedures. Performs other such duties as may be reasonably required by the Finance Manager Accounting or to any other representative of the Employer designated from time to time by the Employer. Qualifications: Required: Possess a relevant tertiary qualification in an Accounting related discipline. Substantial experience in producing group statutory financial statements. Substantial experience with advanced spread sheeting. Significant experience in maintaining and using accounting systems. Able to receive and apply new information and show plenty of initiative. Excellent research and analytical skills. Ability to plan and be systematic. Good interpersonal and communication skills. Excellent personal/team based planning and organisation skills. High level of accuracy and attention to detail. Accepts personal accountability for own learning and responsibilities. Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines. Preferred: Membership of the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) (CA or ACA College). Knowledge of financial reporting regulations. Experience in corporate taxation. Previous financial industry experience (particularly treasury and/or securitisation). Previous database experience. Project team involvement.
