Under the supervision of the Assistant Scientist - Grain Quality and Nutrition Center, this position will contribute to evaluating and participating in validation studies, and performing experiments designed by the assistant scientist. These experiments primarily focus on liquid and gas chromatography-based rice structure analyses; biochemical assays including Total Starch, Resistant Starch, Digestible Starch, Total Sugars, in-vitro glycemic index, nutrient assays for anthocyanins, vitamins, and micronutrients. Contribute in accomplishing manuscript for reports and publications. Supervise research technicians, and delegate tasks to them in order to meet the laboratory's demands in a timely manner.**This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.****Roles and Responsibilities**:- Perform experiments, and participate in validation studies designed by the assistant scientist- Substantially contribute in writing for reports and publications- Able to supervise and guide technicians assigned in doing specific assays- Report to Assistant Scientist of the progress in the scheduled assays- Communicate with internal partners and collaborators to exchange conceptual ideas and to effectively gather feedback for the advancement of assigned projects- Advise research activities improvement that are beneficial to the experiment- Work closely with research technicians in order to maintain smooth conduct of laboratory processes and data compilation, as well as to foster a productive working environment- Coordinate with required IRRI units for supplies and other services to ensure smooth implementation of experiments- Provide support in the implementation of laboratory tasks and other research studies- Collect and analyze research data and contribute to the writing of manuscripts for reports/publications as well as presentations/posters for national and international conferences- Administer effective coordination and preparation of trainings by ensuring that materials, logistics and resource persons are appropriate to the defined objectives- Maintain accurate data recording and update database for efficient storage and retrieval of information- Prepare and submit research outputs to the Assistant Scientist in a timely manner- Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) with guidance of the Assistant Scientist**Qualifications**:- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry/Agricultural Chemistry/Biochemistry**Skills Required**:**Mandatory**- Has proven technical proficiency in conducting field and laboratory experiments- Has good oral and written communication skills- Has good presentation skills- Is able to work independently**Preferred**- Has some experience supervising/overseeing the work of staff- Has experience in using sensory/climatology/physiology equipment and instrumentation**IRRI offers a highly extensive employee benefits package inclusive of globally-covered medical insurance, retirement plan, life and accident insurance and other allowances.
