Conservation International Philippines Foundation, Inc. (CIPFI) is a local environmental non-profit organization. With the mission of building upon a strong foundation of science, partnership and field demonstration, Conservation International Philippines empowers societies to responsibly and sustainably care for nature, our global biodiversity, for the well-being of humanity.
The Transformative Actions for Climate and Ecological Protection and Development (TRANSCEND) Project aims to contribute to the transition of the Philippines into a climate-resilient, low-carbon, and biodiversity-friendly society, aligning with their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework targets. It will be implemented as a national-scale project with unique sets of outputs that various consortium partners will carry out. CIPFI will co-lead with Rare in delivering Output 1, which focuses on the conservation and management of relevant geographic spaces whose ideal management could be addressed through a better understanding of its land-to-sea continuum, referred to as a ridge-to-reef approach, taking off from selected key biodiversity areas (KBAs) across three geographic regions: Southern Tagalog, Western Visayas, and Northern Mindanao. Working closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including sub-national, provincial, and municipal leaders, indigenous peoples and local communities, and the business community, CIPFI will conserve and protect natural carbon sinks, build adaptive capacities of communities to face climate change impacts, engage local stakeholders to address biodiversity loss and climate threats, influence national-level policies through successful local conservation and adaptation efforts, and leverage funds with investments from local and international sources. The project will showcase a comprehensive reef-to-ridge approach to combat biodiversity loss and climate change impacts.
