**PRODUCTION MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION**:
- Interfaces with other departments to agree on and implement system processes required for the continued development of the production workflow processes.
- Source, select, and communicate with suppliers, contractors, machine operators and/or technicians for the book production processes.
- Participate in establishing and modifying operational methods and processes by recommending changes in materials, equipment, and procedures.
- Assign employees to maximize production objectives, maintain quality and attain output requirements.
- Recruits, selects, orients, trains, assigns, schedules, coaches, and counsels production staff.
- Communicates job expectations then plan, monitors, appraise and review job contributions.
- Enforces policies and procedures, control the production schedules, create and check productivity to ensure publications are delivered on time.
- Maintain a variety of reports, records, and production documentation to reflect schedules, performance, methods, deliverables, and the like.
- Other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
**PRODUCTION MANAGER QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Education: Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, and/or other related courses
- 5-8 years demonstrated leadership experience is required.
Prior supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
- Advanced experience in managing projects, possessing a strong knowledge of traditional and digital printing
- Thorough knowledge and hands-on experience with all phases of book production, including in-depth knowledge of desktop publishing and basic rudiments of art and design
- Proficiency in File Transfer Protocol, file conversion, and printing processes
- Must be able to work well under pressure especially during tight deadlines
- Ability to effectively manage workflow with multiple projects simultaneously
- Can interface with internal departments and external book publication community
- Requires flexible, proactive, self-starter with proven ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
**PRODUCTION MANAGER SKILLS**:
- General knowledge base of current costs for a wide range of services in the publishing industry: able to evaluate or generate cost estimates, assess invoices, and discuss budget implications of various production methods/options with vendors.
- Strong understanding of the print and publishing best practice processes, with experience of working on digital products within a book production environment
- Able to understand technical material and able to produce quality books and other printed materials
- Demonstrated willingness to hold self and others accountable for individual and team business results and behaviors.

- Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, perform desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
