Medical Representative / Pharmaceutical Sales Representative
Job Summary:
The Medical Representative will act as the key link between pharmaceutical companies and healthcare professionals. They will be responsible for promoting and selling the company's products, which include prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and medical equipment. The representative will work to increase product awareness, answer queries, provide advice, and introduce new products. They will maintain solid relationships with existing customers and develop new business.
Key Responsibilities:
Promote pharmaceutical products: Persuade healthcare professionals (HCPs) to prescribe or recommend the company's products.
Visit healthcare professionals: Schedule and conduct visits to physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers.
Product knowledge: Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of the company's products, industry developments, and competitor offerings.
Education and presentations: Provide product education and training to HCPs through presentations, meetings, and workshops.
Sales Targets: Meet or exceed sales targets and KPIs set by the company.
Build relationships: Develop and maintain long-term relationships with doctors, medical staff, pharmacists, and key opinion leaders.
Territory management: Manage and grow a specific geographical territory, ensuring regular coverage and engagement with key clients.
Reporting: Maintain detailed records of sales visits, activities, and outcomes in compliance with company policies.
Feedback Collection: Gather customer feedback and relay it to marketing and product development teams.
Compliance: Adhere to industry regulations, company policies, and ethical standards in promoting pharmaceutical products.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education: A bachelor's degree in life sciences, pharmacy, medicine, or a related field. (Sometimes a degree in business or marketing is also acceptable.)
Sales Experience: Prior experience in sales, preferably in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry.
Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively present information to clients.
Persuasion Skills: Ability to influence healthcare professionals and effectively promote products.
Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret sales data, understand market dynamics, and develop strategic plans.
Interpersonal Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with healthcare professionals.
Self-motivation: Must be highly self-motivated, disciplined, and goal oriented.
Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
Problem-solving: Strong problem-solving skills to address challenges and meet customer needs.
Knowledge of the medical field: An understanding of medical terminology, pharmaceutical products, and treatment processes is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a Medical Representative.
- Experience in a specific therapeutic area (e.g., cardiology, oncology, diabetes).
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical regulations (FDA, EMA).
- Familiarity with CRM software for tracking sales activities.
Work Environment:
- Frequent travel to healthcare facilities, including hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies.
- Regular face-to-face meetings with healthcare professionals.
