It Telephone Technician

• Duties:

Determines routing and placement of cabling, wiring, and fiber optics.

Performs physical installation of equipment and components (e.g. wiring, cabling, telephone instruments, necessary interface cards, modems, hubs, routers, multiplexors, equipment racks, etc.).

Moves or relocates and reinstalls equipment.

Responds to trouble reports, performs trouble shooting activities and repairs/replaces malfunctioning equipment and/or facilities.

Documents and/or logs equipment/system installation and/or modification actions.

Assists in planning and implementing departmental telecommunications and/or facility layout changes.

• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of communications wiring standards and installation practices.
Knowledge of telecommunications switching and common control systems.
Skill in the use of personal computers and software.
Skill in the use and operation of test equipment and diagnostic software.
Ability to physically install and configure equipment, connections, wiring, and cable working from layouts or plans.
Skill in both verbal and written communication.
Ability to read and understand technical manuals, schematic diagrams, and related documentation.

• Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of two year technical training program in electronics, communications, telephony, or industrial or IT technology AND experience; OR, a years of directly related telecommunications installation or modification experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. (Newly Graduate are Welcome)
