The IT Specialist plays a crucial role in providing technical support and maintaining the IT infrastructure of our higher education institution. This position involves troubleshooting hardware and software issues, managing network systems, proposing new programs or alternatives for a better online and academic environment, and ensuring the security and integrity of data. The IT Specialist will work closely with faculty, staff, and students to address their technology needs and optimize the use of IT resources for educational purposes.Responsibilities:Provide technical support to faculty, staff, and students for hardware, software, and network-related issues.Install, configure, and maintain computer systems, software applications, and peripherals.Manage and monitor the college's network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and access points.Implement security measures to protect against cyber threats and ensure data privacy.Conduct regular backups of critical data and develop disaster recovery plans.Collaborate with other departments to integrate technology into teaching and learning activities.Train end-users on the use of IT systems and software applications.Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in the field of information technology.Participate in IT projects and initiatives to improve system efficiency and user experience.Maintain documentation of IT procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.Proven experience in providing technical support in an educational or institutional setting.Proficiency in operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), office productivity suites, and network protocols.Knowledge of cybersecurity principles and best practices.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+) are a plus.Working Conditions:This position may require occasional evening work to perform system maintenance or upgrades.The IT Specialist may need to lift and move computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, along with other helpers of the institution.The role involves working in both office and classroom environments, with exposure to computer screens and equipment for extended periods.
