About the role We are seeking an experienced Engineering Director to oversee multiple engineering squads. The successful candidate will be a hands on leader instrumental in the transformation and modernisation of our technology landscape, including transitioning from monolithic systems to scalable architectures. This role demands a professional who excels in balancing immediate technical needs with long-term objectives, while also maintaining a hands-on approach in coding and system design, especially with PHP and Laravel-based platforms.
Key Responsibilities: Working with client-side engineering leaders, involvement in architecting and overseeing the transition of legacy systems to modern, scalable platforms, with a particular focus on PHP and Laravel-based systems. Develop and implement engineering strategies that align with the engineering teams overall goals, while actively contributing to coding and system design. Collaborate closely with client engineering TL's and engineering leaders to synchronise engineering strategies with product roadmaps. Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for engineering practices, while participating in the coding and development processes. Code reviewing of Horizon's team members engineering solutions, and mentoring. Champion best practices in software development, infrastructure management, and security, with direct involvement in critical development tasks. Mentor Horizon software engineers to promote professional development across the squads, providing hands-on technical guidance and support. Maintain a commitment to professional development and innovation in a hands-on technical capacity. Support recruitment processes for recruiting and onboarding new software engineers. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. 10+ years of experience in software engineering and technology leadership, including 5+ years in a directorial role managing large teams. 5 years in PHP and Laravel-based systems 5 years managing AWS workloads 2+ years with OpenSearch / Elastic Search 2 years + experience managing automation testing initiatives. Proven track record in leading scale initiatives, such as migrating from monolithic architectures to microservices, with hands-on expertise in PHP and Laravel-based platforms. Strong practical experience in modern software development practices and technologies. Experienced in scaling infrastructure and managing large-scale technology deployments with hands-on technical involvement. Exceptional problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills, combined with hands-on technical skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a high-growth technology company. Experience with eCommerce platforms is highly advantageous. Experience with travel platforms is a plus. #J-18808-Ljbffr
