1. Work to be performed
Digital accessibility is coordinated by the Frontier Technologies & Data (FTD) team in the Information Management and Technology (IMT) Department. The task with be performed in coordination with stakeholders in IMT and the candidate with report to the head of FTD. It will centre around digital accessibility capacity building, engagement and support of the web governance platform.
2. Expected deliverable(s)
Task 1:
Support Digital Accessibility capacity building
• Update SharePoint content and knowledge base (related to accessibility and other topics).
• Write accessibility related guidelines e.g. accessibility guidelines for editors on how to create an accessible Sitefinity website
Task 2:
Quality assurance testing of Digital Accessibility fixes
• Review UI changes in the development environment as required when fixes are applied.
• Support accessibility assessment of documents and platforms, as needed.
• Support fixing of web quality issues, such as broken links, broken images etc…
• A code review ensuring that accessibility standards are embedded into the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript of the website
Task 3:
Provide support for Monsido web governance platform
• Respond to queries and maintain/configure setup as needed.
• Provide regular reports on web governance metrics like broken links, inaccessible documents, and other web quality issues.
Task 4:
Accessibility training and awareness programs
• Design and deliver accessibility-focused training for various teams, including developers, content creators, and designers.
• Foster a culture of accessibility awareness by organizing regular learning sessions, webinars, and accessibility challenge initiatives.
Task 5:
Assist in accessibility support and responses
• Respond promptly to urgent accessibility issues reported by users, ensuring quick resolutions to maintain accessibility compliance.
• Collaborate with customer support teams to provide accessible troubleshooting guides and resources for users experiencing accessibility challenges.
3. Essential knowledge and skills
• Understanding of ICT/digital accessibility, including web accessibility tools, design, and content, in line with international standards e.g. Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
• Familiarity working with Content Management Systems.
• Knowledge of how people with various disabilities use digital platforms and the barriers they face.
• Experience conducting accessibility assessments and user testing e.g. evaluation techniques, tools, and methods to identify accessibility barriers.
• Understanding of assistive technologies and adaptive approaches used by persons with disabilities.
• Strong project management skills with attention to detail.
• Adaptable to change and effective under pressure.
• Experience working with international, multi-cultural teams across time zones.
• Ability to promote best practices, conduct research, and apply diverse information.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proactive, flexible, and able to work independently.
4. Education qualifications
Essential
• Bachelor's degree in information technology (IT); Human-Computer Interaction (HCI); Software Engineering Web Design or similar field.
Desirable
• Certification in web accessibility/ digital accessibility or other equivalent certification.
5. Experience
Essential
• Three (3) years of recent professional experience in Information Technology;
• of which, two (2) years involves work related to digital accessibility;
Desirable
• extensive experience in working across multiple time zones without the need for face to face meetings;
• experience with Service Management;
• experience with UN or other international or multinational organizations;
• experience with professional business services such as consulting.
