JOB SUMMARY
The Design Engineer candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing solar photovoltaic systems for both residential and C&I installations. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical design principles, proficiency in industry-standard design software, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, efficient, and reliable solar energy solutions.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Gather data from existing drawings, rough sketches, surveys, and/or from general engineering and design information according to established standards and procedures.
Conduct on-site assessments to gather data on roof dimensions, orientation, shading
Evaluate site conditions and constraints to inform system design and component selection.
Develop detailed designs for solar PV systems
Create and review system layouts using software tools like AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope, and SolarEdge Designer.
Perform shading analysis and optimize array configurations to maximize energy production.
Design electrical wiring diagrams and schematics for solar PV systems.
Size and select appropriate system components, including inverters, modules, and balance of system (BOS) components.
Perform string sizing calculations and ensure proper array-to-inverter matching.
Ensure all designs comply with local, national, and international codes and standards.
Prepare documentation for permitting and regulatory approvals.
Create and maintain project documentation, including Bill of Materials (BOM) and As-Built drawings.
Work closely with project managers, installers, and other engineering team members to ensure successful project execution.
Communicate effectively with clients to understand their requirements and provide technical support.
Participate in project meetings and provide design-related input and updates.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Licensed Electrical Engineer
At least 1 year experience in Solar PV system design
Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope.
Hands-on experience in site assessment and characterization for solar installations.
Strong understanding of electrical design principles related to solar PV systems.
Knowledge of PV system components including solar panels, inverters, mounting structures, and balance of system (BOS) components.
Familiarity with grid interconnection requirements and standards.
Up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and codes (e.g., PEC, NEC, IEC, local regulations)
Willingness to travel for site assessments and inspections as needed.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with team members and clients.
