The Dentist in a pre-employment diagnostic healthcare facility within the Maritime Industry is responsible for conducting dental examinations and assessments of individuals seeking employment in maritime roles. This role involves evaluating oral health, identifying dental conditions, and providing recommendations for dental treatment to ensure the dental fitness of seafarers and applicants for maritime employment.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Perform comprehensive dental examinations of individuals applying for employment in maritime roles. Assess oral health status, including teeth, gums, soft tissues, and occlusion, to identify any dental conditions or concerns.Order and interpret dental diagnostic imaging, such as dental x-rays or panoramic radiographs, to assess dental anatomy, detect dental caries, and evaluate bone structure. Use imaging findings to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.Evaluate applicants' oral hygiene practices and provide education and counseling on proper oral care techniques, including brushing, flossing, and nutrition. Assess risk factors for dental diseases and provide recommendations for preventive interventions.Develop individualized treatment plans based on findings from dental examinations and assessments. Prioritize dental treatment needs and coordinate with dental specialists or external providers for additional services as necessary.Perform routine dental procedures, such as dental cleanings, fillings, extractions, and minor restorative work, as part of pre-employment dental screenings. Ensure that dental procedures are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry standards.Provide emergency dental care and treatment for applicants experiencing acute dental problems or pain during pre-employment screenings. Manage dental emergencies effectively to alleviate discomfort and ensure applicants' dental fitness for maritime employment.Maintain accurate and detailed dental records for all pre-employment dental examinations and treatments performed. Document findings, diagnoses, treatment plans, and recommendations in electronic dental records systems or paper-based records in accordance with facility protocols.Stay informed about maritime regulations, guidelines, and industry standards related to dental health and pre-employment dental screenings. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and uphold ethical standards of dental practice.QUALIFICATIONS: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited dental school.License to practice dentistry in the state or jurisdiction where the facility is located.Experience in general dentistry or occupational dentistry preferred.Strong clinical skills and knowledge of dental procedures and techniques.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.Commitment to patient-centered care and dental health promotion.
