The Consultant Architect is a part-time, on-call position responsible for meeting with clients to gather project information, conducting site surveys to determine optimal placement for buildings or structures, developing procedural designs for project execution in compliance with international and local codes, and understanding site utility requirements such as water, electricity, and communications; additionally, the architect must review and evaluate project submittals for potential multi-trade issues or clashes, and if any issues are identified, coordinate their resolution with the design manager and design team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Review the Client's Program of Requirements as outlined in the RFP and additional client information, along with the site characteristics.
• Examine relevant statutes, regulations, codes, and by-laws, and consult with the appropriate authorities when necessary.
• Collaborate and coordinate with a team of architects, engineers, planners, and interior designers.
• Attend project kick-off meetings and conduct site investigations or evaluations of existing facilities, assisting the client in obtaining necessary surveys, geotechnical reports, or hazardous materials assessments.
• Perform building assessments and deliver comprehensive reports on existing buildings and structures, focusing on code compliance, ADA accessibility, and client requirements.
• Review scopes of work, specifications, plans, and applicable jurisdictional codes to ensure project design milestones and deliverable deadlines are met while providing cost-effective, contract-compliant design solutions.
• Follow the design process to resolve outstanding design issues requiring decision-making, acting as a consultant for architects, engineers, and third-party consultants.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of design and construction standards to ensure projects are executed with the necessary quality.
• Provide design review services throughout all design phases, offering technically sound and aesthetically sensitive feedback on drawings.
• Produce basic drawings, including sketches, 2D and 3D representations, construction details, and measured drawings of existing buildings.
• Deliver signed and sealed construction drawings, specifications, and other required documentation for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local codes.
• Serve as Planate's representative during project construction meetings, ensuring adherence to issued construction documents, schedule, and budget.
• Validate contractor mark-ups and other adjustments to the drawings after construction is completed.
• Offer project-related services, including progress meetings and securing regulatory approvals and necessary permits.
• Provide support and perform other duties as assigned by the Design Manager.
Qualifications to be successful in the role:
• A licensed Architect is required for the role.
• Proficiency in office automation systems, including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office, is essential.
• Candidates should have at least 10 years of experience in planning and development, along with knowledge of related fields such as civil, structural, electrical, fire protection, and mechanical engineering.
• Extensive experience in applying fundamental engineering concepts, terminology, and measurement units relevant across architecture and project management is necessary.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required.
