Compliance with Rules, Regulations and Requirements The C/O is responsible for the implementation and compliance of statutory, international, flag or local rules and regulations and our safety management system. The C/O shall ensure:
Compliance with port and terminal specific regulations.Compliance with industry best practices.Navigation The C/O is responsible for the safe navigation of the vessel during his watch. The C/O shall:
Keep a watch from 0400 to 0800 and 1600 to 2000.Perform other navigational duties as per Master requirements.If the C/O is a day worker, then to avoid losing bridge watchkeeping skills they shall:Do at least 2 navigational watches per week (4-8 watch).Operation of the Vessel The C/O is responsible for the cargo operations. He shall:
Exercise a high level of commercial awareness when operating the vessel.Control, issue and review assigned commercial and port documents.Protect owner's commercial interests.Comply with all Charter Party's clauses and voyage instructions.Plan, execute and monitor cargo and ballast operations.Ensure the vessel's readiness to receive or discharge cargo.Ensure the safe handling of cargo, ballast, COW, tank cleaning, inerting, purging operations in accordance with our company procedures.Keep padlock keys of IGS main line branch valves.Maintain the oil record book part II and cargo record book.Record operations timely and accurately.Ensure familiarization of shipboard deck staff with safe cargo handling operations.Ensure maintenance and testing of cargo equipment.Make sure that vessel's hull stresses and stability do not exceed the permitted limits.Act as the ballast management officer.Comply with ballast water management requirements.Train the crew on ballast water management system.Prepare vessel for departure to sea.Safety, Security and Environmental Protection The C/O shall:
Act as the vessel's occupational health, safety and accident prevention officer.Issue clear instructions to deck and catering personnel.Verify compliance with company procedures.Conduct regular safety rounds along with the safety representatives.Ensure maintenance and testing of shipboard safety equipment.Ensure maintenance and testing of SOPEP/SMPEP equipment.Report and investigate incidents.Act as training Officer.Plan and supervise onboard training as per the training matrix.Supervise Deck Cadet training.Identify training needs for deck and catering personnel.Promote safety culture and ensure deck and catering staff adhere to safe working practices.Ensure use of personal protection and safety equipment by the deck and catering department staff.Monitor situations and take appropriate measures with Environmental officer to avoid any pollution incidents.Act as the Alternate Ship Security Officer.Be an understudy to the Master.Note: In case the Master is incapacitated the C/O will temporarily assume the command of the ship. The C/O shall inform the company immediately of the circumstances. Make an entry in the logbook.
Perform any other tasks as instructed by Master.Shipboard Organization, Health, Hygiene and Welfare & Maintenance and Inspection Shipboard Organization The C/O shall take the following steps to implement and maintain an adequate onboard management:
Issue Standing Orders in a clear and simple manner.Allocate deck crew watches.Define job assignments within the deck department.Participate in the regular Shipboard Safety and Management Committee Meetings.Promote good interdepartmental and interpersonal co-operation.Health, Hygiene and Welfare The C/O is responsible for keeping a healthy environment in the deck and catering departments. The C/O shall:
Maintain discipline within the deck and catering department.Maintain high housekeeping standards on deck and accommodation.Maintain a high crew morale.Establish work plans so that fatigue does not impair deck and catering staff.Supervise the catering crew.Maintenance and Inspection The C/O shall:
Adopt and develop work plans for deck and catering crew.Monitor and ensure compliance of the deck and catering planned maintenance and inspection schedules.Maintain operational reliability and efficiency of deck systems and equipment.Supervise the maintenance of the vessel's external and internal structures.Ensure that defects affecting the ship's structure, systems or equipment are:Reported to the Master.Investigated.Repaired.Administer and control deck stores, spares inventory and requisitions.Benefits Long-term career prospects.Career growth development.
