The Canadian Accessibility Standards Development Organization (Accessibility Standards Canada) is a departmental corporation within the Department of Employment and Social Development portfolio. Accessibility Standards Canada was created in 2019 under the Accessible Canada Act, which establishes a framework for the identification, removal and prevention of barriers to accessibility. Its mandate is to contribute to a Canada without barriers by 2040, through:

developing and revising accessibility standards recommending standards to the Minister responsible for Accessibility providing information, products and services about new and revised standards supporting and conducting research on barriers to accessibility sharing best practices for identifying, removing and preventing accessibility barriers. The Chief Executive Officer of Accessibility Standards Canada reports through the Minister responsible for accessibility under the Accessible Canada Act and is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations and providing executive leadership and management direction for the development of standards designed to identify, remove and prevent barriers to accessibility. The Chief Executive Officer exhibits strong leadership and interpersonal skills and demonstrates empathy and a collaborative approach in discharging their responsibilities while working with staff, the board of directors and stakeholders.

To be considered, please ensure that the information provided in your curriculum vitae and cover letter clearly demonstrate how you meet the following requirements: Education and Experience A degree from a recognized university in a relevant field of study; Demonstrated experience providing executive leadership and management direction for the development and delivery of programs and policies; Experience leading the development and implementation of governance and management approaches, structures and processes; Experience leading the development and delivery of comprehensive communications, outreach, promotion and / or engagement activities; Experience in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships, promoting partnerships and engaging disability stakeholders, Indigenous organizations, federal, provincial and territorial governments and other stakeholder groups such as private industry and standards development organizations; Demonstrated experience providing executive leadership to direct a multimillion-dollar organization's human, financial and material resources and ensuring the prudent and effective use of those resources. If you move on to the next stage of the selection process, the following criteria will be assessed: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of Government of Canada operations, guidelines, directives and policies; Knowledge of the Accessible Canada Act, accessibility policy and program frameworks, and government of Canada priorities in advancing accessibility; Knowledge of the Canadian disability stakeholder community, including persons with disabilities, and their priorities related to accessibility and disability inclusion; Knowledge of the mandate, priorities and activities of Accessibility Standards Canada; Knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of the chairperson, the board of directors and the Chief Executive Officer; Superior communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to act as a spokesperson for Accessibility Standards Canada in dealing with the media, public institutions, governments and other organizations; Ability to provide strong and ethical leadership at the highest level to deliver results and ensure Accessibility Standards Canada is able to carry out its mandate and achieve its longer-term objectives; Ability to understand and balance the various needs and interests of multiple stakeholders; Ability to work effectively with a wide range of groups and individuals from different backgrounds, positions and socio-economic conditions; Ability to manage and motivate to effect organizational change and achieve positive outcomes. Language Requirements Proficiency in both official languages would be preferred.

The appointee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. The appointee must reside in or be willing to relocate to the National Capital Region, or to a location within a reasonable commuting distance. The appointee must be willing to travel across Canada and internationally.
