POSITION SUMMARY:
The Chief Accountant is responsible for overseeing the accounting department, ensuring the accurate and timely reporting of financial information, compliance with relevant laws and regulations, and contributing to the financial planning of the company. This position supervises accountants, ensures internal controls are in place, and provides strategic financial insights to upper management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
FINANCIAL REPORTING AND ANALYSIS:
Prepare and analyze financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
Ensure the timely and accurate reporting of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial information.
Provide financial insights and recommendations based on financial analysis and trends.
GENERAL LEDGER AND MONTH-END CLOSE PROCESS:
Oversee the maintenance of the general ledger, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately.
Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes.
Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies.
BUDGETING AND FORECASTING:
Assist in the preparation of the company's annual budget and financial forecasts.
Monitor variances between actual results and budgets/forecasts, providing explanations for deviations.
COMPLIANCE AND AUDIT:
Ensure compliance with tax regulations, accounting standards (GAAP, IFRS), and internal policies.
Coordinate and lead external and internal audits.
Stay updated on changes in financial regulations and implement necessary changes to accounting procedures.
TEAM LEADERSHIP:
Supervise and mentor junior accountants and accounting staff.
Develop and implement accounting procedures and internal controls.
Conduct performance reviews, provide training, and ensure the development of the accounting team.
TREASURY AND CASH MANAGEMENT:
Monitor and manage the company's cash flow.
Oversee accounts receivable and payable, ensuring timely collections and payments.
Liaise with banks and financial institutions to manage company financing and banking relationships.
FINANCIAL STRATEGY AND PLANNING:
Work with senior management to develop financial strategies that align with the company's long-term goals.
Provide strategic financial guidance on business decisions, investments, and risk management.
SYSTEMS MANAGEMENT:
Oversee the implementation and use of financial software and systems.
Recommend and lead system upgrades or changes to improve efficiency.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's or CPA/ACCA preferred).
At least 5-7 years of accounting experience, with 2+ years in a managerial or supervisory role.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP, IFRS), financial reporting, and tax regulations.
Experience with financial software and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks).
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
