An aesthetician, also known as an esthetician, is a licensed skincare professional who performs treatments to improve the health and appearance of skin and facial features:
Consult with clients
Understand a client's skin type and concerns, and recommend treatments and products to address them
Prepare a sanitary environment
Set up a clean space before performing a procedure
Perform treatments
Provide services such as facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, waxing, and extractions
Educate clients
Teach clients how to take care of their skin and create an effective skincare routine
Treat skin issues
Address common skin concerns like acne, dry skin, oily skin, sun damage, and signs of aging
Aestheticians may work in salons or spas and typically have two years of industry experience.
They should be able to communicate effectively, be courteous and professional, and maintain client confidentiality.
Other important skills include: Being a good listener, Having strong time management skills, and Being able to adapt and solve problems.
Some aestheticians specialize in one area of skincare, such as laser therapy, while others are trained in a variety of clinical skin procedures.
