The Accounting Supervisor will oversee the accounting operations within the construction company, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This role involves supervising day-to-day accounting activities, managing financial records, and providing support for budgeting and financial planning.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Supervision:
Lead and manage a team including assigning tasks, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
Train and develop accounting staff to ensure high standards of accuracy and efficiency.
Financial Reporting:
Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements, reports, and documentation for accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
Ensure timely and accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.
Project Accounting:
Manage project accounting functions, including job cost tracking, billing, and revenue recognition.
Review and approve project-related invoices, change orders, and payments, ensuring alignment with contract terms and project budgets.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Assist in the preparation and monitoring of project budgets and forecasts, providing analysis and recommendations for financial performance improvements.
Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate budgeting and financial reporting for construction projects.
Compliance and Controls:
Ensure compliance with accounting principles, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
Develop and implement internal controls and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
Financial Analysis:
Conduct financial analysis and variance analysis to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for cost savings.
Provide insights and recommendations to management based on financial data and analysis.
Accounts Payable and Receivable:
Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices, payments, and collections.
Manage relationships with vendors and clients to resolve any billing or payment issues.
Audit and Tax Preparation:
Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and addressing audit inquiries.
Assist with tax preparation and compliance, including sales tax, property tax, and income tax.
Process Improvement:
Identify and implement improvements in accounting processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Stay updated with industry trends and changes in accounting regulations to ensure best practices are followed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification or equivalent is preferred.
Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 2-3 years in a supervisory or managerial role, preferably within the construction industry.
Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop accounting staff.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
