Carpenter

Carpenters can work in a variety of settings, including residential or commercial buildings, on a construction site, or in a workshop. They may need to be able to work in all weather conditions and at height.

Reading blueprints
Carpenters read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to understand project specifications
Measuring
Carpenters take measurements and calculate the sizes and amounts of materials needed for the project
Cutting and shaping
Carpenters cut, shape, and smooth wood, plastic, and other materials according to measurements
Building
Carpenters construct and install building frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes
Installing
Carpenters install structures and fixtures, such as windows, moulding, hardwood floors, siding, cabinets, drywall, and insulation
Inspecting and repairing
Carpenters inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures
Directing
Carpenters instruct and direct laborers and other construction helpers
Complying with safety guidelines
Carpenters comply with all company and governmental safety guidelines
